Outreach
Apostles is a giving church both financially, and with time and talent. Apostles has invested in numerous individuals and organizations with monetary support; in 2022, these outreaches included:
Assurance for Life, a crisis pregnancy support organization
The Zulu family of Zambia, longtime global partners of our parish
Joel and Elizabeth Peterson, missionaries in Cairo, Egypt
The Emergency Benevolent Fund, which is an ongoing fund to support those who call and walk into our parish looking for aid
A retreat center for artists in Normandy, France
Lexington Rescue Mission via their capital campaign, program expenses, and food collection
Kentucky State University Wesley Foundation (donation to help fund an assistant director position)
Taras Telkovsky, missionary from Belarus for ministry to refugee youth in Poland
Sasha Batyshka, fellow missionary
Apostles’ parishioners give of their time and talents in many ways. In 2022, due to the significant flood damage that occurred in Eastern Kentucky, multiple teams went to help with the clean up and assisted a local church with meals. There are also groups of volunteers from our parish that regularly help with two local non-profit organizations: The Hope Center, to serve men dinner the second Friday of the month, and Nathaniel Mission, to serve a meal at an afterschool program in rotation with other local churches and organizations.
In spring of 2023, Apostles embarked on a new mission of sponsoring a refugee family through Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM). This sponsorship includes supplying home furnishings, pantry items, apartment setup, assisting with transportation and communication needs as this family moves into the Lexington area. Apostles was paired with a family from the Democratic Republic of Congo by way of South Africa in early April and this ministry is active and on-going.
Another aspect of community outreach is the parish’s involvement with the Chevy Chase Farmers’ Market. The parish opens up the parking lot to host this market each Wednesday morning from 8 am to noon during the growing season. There are Apostles parishioners who participate in this market as both vendors and patrons.
